Just over 48 hours to begin the three days of celebration of the XVI Monterrei Wine Fair, which will combine wine, musical and cultural activities aimed at all ages.
The main core of it will be the traditional fair to be held in the Plaza de la Alameda, and in which this edition will be present a total of 18 of the 28 wineries that make up the denomination (Bodegas Ladairo, Gargalo, Adega Valderello, Crego e Monaguillo, Quinta do Buble, Adega Terras do Cigarrón, Triay, Adegas Terrae, Tapias Mariñan, Fragas do Lecer, Vía Arxéntea, Bodega Abeledos, Pazo de Valdeconde S.L., Franco Basalo, Adegas Daniel Fernández, Quinta Soutullo, Manuel Vázquez Viticultor and Serra de Alén).
The opening hours of the stands will be as follows: Friday 11 from 19.30 to 24.00 h. (advance sale from 19.00 hours), Saturday 12 from 12.30 to 14.30 h. and from 19.30 to 01.00 h., and Sunday 13 from 12.30 to 14.30 h and from 19.30 to 24.00 h. And the prices of 5 tastings for ten euros and a personalized glass of the D.O. for two euros.
In addition to the stands of the wineries, there will be gastronomic stands suitable for all audiences (La Alacena para llevar, Panadería Roscas, C. Regueiro, Filloas/Crêpes, Alacena-Puebla de Sanabria, Jamones Don Francisco, Conservas de Santoña, Queixería Gaia and Casa do Pulpo).
The inauguration of the XVI Fair Monterrei Wine will take place on Friday 11, from 20 hours, in the square Garcia Barbon, and the proclamation will be by the television presenter Esther Estévez. An hour and a half before, at 18.30, will be held in the Parish Church of Verín, the act of imposing medals of the Brotherhood of Monterrei Wines. On this occasion will fall to Luis Buitrón, president of the Spanish Federation of Enology, Josefa Álvarez Araújo and Emilio Santos Rodríguez, two neighbors of the region of Monterrei, with great involvement in the wine sector. Admission will be free until full capacity.
Already in the days of 12 and 13 August, are planned to conduct tastings commented and showcookings, for the adult public, as well as popular children’s games. They are planned ‘Introduction to the tasting of the wines of Monterrei’ (to the 13 hours of Saturday, in charge of David Pascual, president of the Galician Association of Enoloxía), ‘Showcooking of Begoña Vázquez (O Regueiro da Cova) and tasting-harmony with wines of the D.O. Monterrei (Miguel López, technical director of C.R.D.O. Monterrei)’. In this case it will also be on Saturday, but already at 20.30. And the last of them will be ‘Ambassadors of Monterrei’, on Sunday at 13:00, and will be given by Juanjo Figueroa, president of the Galician Association of Sommeliers – AGASU.
