The president of the C.R.D.O. Monterrei, Lara Da Silva, and the manager of Inorde, Emma González, have inaugurated the theoretical-practical day of digitalization in viticulture Starting in this way the calendar of alternative activities programmed to remember the Wine Fair of Monterrei.
Throughout the morning, around 20 wine sector professionals will receive training in meteorological data collection, models for the prediction of fungal diseases in vineyards, management control of the digital logbook, vegetation maps obtained from the processing of aerial images (obtained with satellites, drones or planes), or water resources management, among other aspects. In addition, they will know in the own experimental farm of the Inorde located in Monterrei, the operation of sensors of different types or as the drones can help in the different phases of the vine. All this, in order to show that the use of digital applications provides information to achieve proper planning of planting, in order to face the challenge of climate change and increase profitability.
“Today’s issue, digitalisation, is a priority for the different bodies that work to make the rural environment a living, sustainable and profitable environment,” says Lara Da Silva. “We must bear in mind that certain digital decision-making techniques, both in vineyards and wineries, are today a powerful asset for our competitiveness. Indeed, new technologies will not only help us to increase the profitability needed to maintain the industrial fabric and combat depopulation, but in some cases they also help us to reduce the cost of farming and to improve the quality and the environment in which our vineyards are set up, and of course to stand firm on the market in the face of competition. The reality is only one, there is reinventing and adapting, and that is something that the new legislative lines emanating from Europe have already warned us about. The important thing is to be skilful and fast, only then will we be able to position ourselves strategically”.
This day is organized by the Inorde in collaboration with the D.O. Monterrei and the Council of Monterrei, within the framework of the European project Agriconect Network 4.0.
