The town of Verín will host, from 12 to 14 August, a new edition of the Monterrei Denomination of Origin Wine Fair.
On this occasion a total of 18 of the 28 wineries that make up the denomination will participate, one more than in 2019, “which shows that, after two years without celebration for the health crisis of the Covid-19, the sector continues to bet on this wine event that for us has a great emotional load,” says the president of the Regulatory Council of the D.O. Monterrei, Lara Da Silva Rodríguez; “therefore we return with more force and enthusiasm if possible, and we hope that the visitor can taste all the work and effort made in recent years”.
The mayor of Verinese, Gerardo Seoane Fidalgo, wanted to make an appeal to the public so that neighbors and visitors come to Verín, on the dates on which the Fair is held to enjoy the wines of Monterrei, as well as a complete cultural and gastronomic offer.
«I am sure that our wine fair will return this year, after the break forced by the pandemic, to be a reference event in the south of the province of Ourense; where who visits us can discover the singularities of our region through its heritage gastronomic, wine and cultural», said Seoane.
This appointment will be held again, as has been usual in recent editions, in the Plaza de la Alameda. In addition to the stands of the wineries, there will be gastronomic stalls suitable for all audiences. The opening hours of the stands will be as follows: Friday 12 from 20.30 to 23.30 h., Saturday 13 from 12.30 to 14.00 h. and from 20.30 to 01.00 h., and Sunday 14 from 12.30 to 14.00 h and from 19.30 to 23.30 h. In this edition, the prices will be 5 tastings for ten euros and a personalized glass of the D.O. for two euros.
Agenda of events
Culture, gastronomy, music and wine will join one more year in the framework of the Wine Fair of the D.O of Monterrei. This is planned, second confirmed the concelleira of Education, Culture and Festivities of Verín, Emilia Somoza, that the inaugural act of the Fair will be enlivened by the Band of Pipes of the Council of Verín.
In addition, on the day of Friday 9 will perform in the Plaza Garcia Barbon, between 23.00 and 00.30 hours, the orchestra Arizona. Already from 00.00 hours, it will be the turn of the artist Xisco Feijoó. Singer, award-winning dancer, choreographer, television presenter, vocalist, ETRAD teacher and coordinator of the singing section of the Galician Folk Orchestra SonDeSeu, are some of the most outstanding facets of a total artist, tenacious worker in favor of singing and traditional dance, but from a modern and renewing perspective. The concert will be in the green area of A Preguiza.
The morning of August 13, will feature the presentation of the work “A marabillosa historia do viño en Galicia” by journalist Luis Congil, a vibrant story about the only ancient kingdom in the world that carries wine on the flag. The enormous commercial relevance of Galician wine in the Middle Ages, its relevance in the Americas of discovery or its presence on the tables of kings and personalities from all over Europe are combined, in the case of Monterrei, with a great commercial opportunity: the history of the “virrei bueno”, Gaspar de Zúñiga, 5th Count of Monterrei, who left in the new lands a stream of toponyms in honor of his goodness: today they are a commercial opportunity to explore.
The musical highlight is reserved for Saturday, August 13, at 11.30 pm, in the green area of A Preguiza by the hand of Ruth Lorenzo, a Spanish songwriter and singer with one of the most prodigious voices in our country. She is known for her participation in the The X Factor competition in 2008 and for representing Spain at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2014.
In Spain Lorenzo is already a consecrated artist after representing Spain in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song “Dancing in the Rain” and getting a tenth place. He performed countless performances in Spain, Ireland and the United Kingdom, where he continues to enjoy great popularity. Aerosmith singer, Steven Tyler and Slash and Carlos Santana agreed to write songs for her. It has two albums in the market “Planeta Azúl” from 2014 and “Loveaholic” published in 2018.
Also on Saturday we will have the performance of the Claxxon Orchestra that will perform in the Plaza García Barbón in two different schedules: from 22.30 to 23.30 hours; and from 01.30 to 03.30 hours of the morning on Sunday.
Finally, on Sunday 13 August, at 23.30 hours, the green zone of A Preguiza, will host the concert of Dos Pájaros y un trio, a musical show starring twelve musicians and singers who interpret the great songs of two of the myths of the song author: Joan Manuel Serrat and Joaquín Sabina. A tribute to the musical couple that has made the audience vibrate around the world with their songs.
In this show, José Manuel del Río Gómez and Txema Aguirrebeitia put themselves in the shoes of the two singer-songwriters to revive songs as mythical as “Mediterráneo”, “Penélope”, “Palabras de amor”, “Y nos dan las 10”, “Quien ha robarme el mes de abril”…
