The C.R.D.O. Monterrei, taking into account the current sanitary circumstances and the increase of positive cases of Covid-19 in the region of Monterrei, suspends the traditional celebration of the Monterrei Wine Fair, scheduled for the month of August.
“It has been a very thoughtful and studied decision, valuing all the pros and cons, and in which the opinion of the registered wineries and the members of the Plenary has been counted,” says the president of the C.R.D.O. Monterrei, Lara Da Silva Rodríguez, “as well as with the Concello de Verín, which, as you know, is our main collaborator”.
“We have been working for a long time in the organisation of the fair, from the space, location of the stands, capacity control or application of sanitary guidelines, etc.; and although we are all sad to take this decision, We believe it is the most appropriate way to protect the health of our neighbors, and thus prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the region, “says the president.
Da Silva also adds that “for days now we have been faced with less than encouraging data in the area, and that is why we must exercise responsibility and empathy. First, an exercise in responsibility for public health, and second, an exercise in empathy with the hospitality sector in the region. Our product depends in large part on the economic activity of the hospitality sector in general, and of course, it would not be coherent and elegant for us to organize an event that, whether true or not, can be pointed out as the cause of future contagions. And let it serve to call into question once again the economic activity of these professionals, provoking more restrictive measures, and punishing again a sector, in this case that of the region, which as we all know, has already been severely punished by the pandemic”.
“We hope to be able to resume the celebration of the fair next year, as it is one of the most significant and emotionally charged events of our denomination, since participating hand-in-hand wineries, winegrowers and the consumer himself, and the one that supposes an essential enotouristic appointment for the region”, concludes the president. “But today, despite the fact that we all want to return to the desired normality, we must be prudent and act with a ‘feeling’, to maintain at least what we have conquered.”
In the event that an alternative activity is scheduled, it will be communicated, in the coming dates, through the official media of the C.R.D.O. Monterrei.
