The Designation of Origin Monterrei has concluded the harvest 2020, reaching again a historic harvest, with 5,717,465.3 kilograms of grapes harvested.
The 2020 harvest campaign has concluded with excellent results, achieving for the third consecutive year a record high, surpassing the 2019 campaign, so far the most successful. “The climatic conditions during the campaign have been excellent, with scarcity of precipitation and high temperatures, which has brought the beginning of the harvest to the month of August. This has allowed the gradual collection of varieties according to their optimum ripening point. On the other hand, the plant health status of the grape has been excellent, “says Da Silva.
The harvest campaign began on August 27, with the winery Pazo das Tapias and ended on September 30, with the wineries Franco Basalo and Triay being the last to close the grape harvest period.
The president also pointed out that “we have found ourselves facing an atypical harvest, which we ended luckily without incident. Since the beginning of the pandemic, the attention, service and security of our staff, as well as of our partners, has been and is fundamental to this Regulatory Council.
But prevention and safety is not at odds with hard work and now we will soon start another stage that will focus on the promotion of the new vintage, looking precisely to encourage new sales opportunities to our partners, who have managed to keep Monterrei in difficult times. My greatest thanks today more than ever to all of them for their work and the risk they take to achieve an active rural”, concludes the president.
