The Regulatory Council, within its cycle of promotional actions, has organized the visit of a delegation of prescribers from the national territory to the wine enclave.
Over the last three days, eight professionals have been part of this initiative. Among them were Alicia Gómez (devinosconalicia.com/AEPEV), Carmen Garrobo (Vino Tendencias), Cleo Pereira (Radio Círculo/Fijet), Benigno de la Torre (Galicia en Vinos/Faro de Vigo), José Ramón Domínguez (Cepas y Vinos), Eliseo González (catadelvino.com/Real Casino de Madrid), Diana Esteban (Lavinia) and José Valdearcos (Paradores de España).
The programme of this initiative has included a large number of activities linked to wine and viticulture. Among them were visits to rock presses (Xan Preto and A Carreira Blanca) ancient vineyards, valley and hillside, grape tasting, as well as four wine tunnels (‘Godello de Monterrei, Valles y Laderas’, ‘Castes de Monterrei’, ‘Vinos de Monterrei’ and ‘Aging potential: vintage emerita 2018’). In addition, these prescribers have visited three wineries of the denomination (Manuel Vázquez Losada, Gargalo and Terras do Cigarrón), where they have known their vineyards, facilities and their most representative wines. This program has also had complementary activities such as the visit to the acropolis of Monterrei, spring of Cabreiroá, organic livestock of Biocoop or the ‘Walk of Talent’ in Riós, among centenary chestnut trees.
“The participants in this initiative have known, first-hand, different wine projects in Monterrei, as well as our wine tradition, lithological and climatic characteristics, vineyards of the valley subzone and other hillside, monovarietals of Godello de Monterrei, or elaborations with other varieties, among other issues”, says President Jonatás Gago. “The realization of the same allows to show in all its splendor our wine territory, and that better to do it during the harvest season, where the union of the work of winemakers and winemakers stands out and the result of it”, adds, “we hope to make more of these actions in the coming months, since you teach, in situ, everything that is Monterrei and what Monterrei means, from the terroir to the cup”.
