Zaragoza has surrendered to the wines of the D.O. Monterrei. Proof of this has been the more than a hundred attendees who have participated in the activities scheduled by the Regulatory Council in the Aragonese capital.
Over the course of two days, the red and white wines of the denomination have been the absolute protagonists of actions aimed at hospitality schools, members of the catering sector, hospitality and sommeliers, among others. They have settled in the realization of Wine Tunnel in the Enoteca Khantaros, the paper ‘The doors of the wine of Galicia: Monterrei’, and a Masterclass for the Association of Maîtres and Professionals of Sala de Aragón. Among those attending such activities are representatives of the hotel complex Aura de Zaragoza, Restaurante Taberna 1941, La Pulpería de Zaragoza, Grupo La Mafia, Arte Beerland, Hábitat Sella de Zaragoza, Sobrelías Gastro de Barbastro, Restaurante Wenceslao, Hotel Zentro, Distribución Rezusta, I.E.S. Miralbueno or members of the Wine Club of the Enoteca Khantaros, among others.
The three programmed activities have allowed to show, to the participants, the soil and climatic characteristics, grape varieties, typology of wines and wine culture of Monterrei, among other issues; in addition to knowing the different elaborations of the denomination. Likewise, the Masterclass has discovered the potential of pairing the wines of Monterrei with different gastronomic elaborations of Aragon, such as ham of Teruel DOP and AOVE Sierra del Moncayo, cow cheese of Bal de Brotó, beef ribs of Aragon IGP, Almudévar braid or Aragonese crumbs, among others. The wineries that have been part of the activities programs in Zaragoza have been: Ladairo, Gargalo, Castro de Lobarzán, José Luis Gómez Ibáñez (Valderello), José Antonio Da Silva Pereira (Vinos Lara), Crego e Monaguillo, Terras do Cigarrón, Triay, Terrae Monterrei, Pazo Blanco Núñez (Tapias Mariñán), Fragas do Lecer, Manuel Guerra Justo (Vía Arxéntea), Pazo de Valdeconde, Tabú, Alba Al-Bar (Daniel Fernández), Franco Basalo, Trasdovento, Manuel Vázquez Losada and Manuel Regueiro García (Serra de Alén).
“The realization of this initiative has allowed us to bring together different sectors, complementary and necessary among them, and thus show our wine potential in Zaragoza”, says Jonatás Gago, president of the entity, “highlighting the peculiarities that make us a unique denomination”.
