The plenary of the Regulatory Council has decided to reformulate the Monterrei Wine Fair, which is held on the second weekend of August, given the situation of health crisis caused by the COVID-19 and the resurgence that is happening in recent weeks.
Instead of the traditional stands of the wineries located in the Plaza de la Alameda de Verín, in this edition the commemoration of the wine event par excellence of the region will move to the virtual world, “it has been waited until the last moment to make the decision, it has been very meditated and sadly the reality has forced us to move our fair to the virtual world in order to respect the social distance and be, therefore, prudent and responsible with the public health, since in the last edition we surpassed 30,000 visitors, “said the president of the C.R.D.O. Monterrei, Lara Da Silva Rodríguez.
Nevertheless, and to continue to enhance the effort and work of the winegrowers and winegrowers who make up the denomination, “it has been decided to carry out an important campaign on social networks, which will extend over several weeks, so that consumers do not forget our wine appointment, which will recover in 2021, and continue to bet on Monterrei on their tables”, the president said.
Among the initiatives to be held is the #BrindoconDOMonterrei competition. The same will be held during the next weekend, coinciding with the date in which the Wine Fair takes place. The same, which will take place on the social network Facebook, seeks to upload toast photos with wine of the denomination, labeling the D.O. Monterrei and using the hastag #BrindoconDOMonterrei. Among all participants will be raffled generic wine cases and visits to wineries in Monterrei, among which participate Gargalo, Vinos Lara, Triay, Tapias Mariñán, Fragas do Lecer, Via Arxéntea, Abeledos, Pazo de Valdeconde, Estela do Val, Daniel Fernández and Quinta Soutullo (by appointment with the winery and in compliance with all hygienic-sanitary measures established).
In addition, there will be posts on wineries of the denomination, videos reminders of the celebration, with the participation of members of the Brotherhood of Wines of Monterrei, among other issues. “All in order to remember that we are a great family, and that next year we will return with more hope if possible and much stronger,” concludes Lara Da Silva. In addition, the president recalls that the appointment with Monterrei this year will not be entirely incomplete, since as it was planned from the beginning of the year the celebration of the Brotherhood of Wines of Monterrei will move, if everything allows us, for the month of December.
“This decision was proposed to the plenary of the Regulatory Council at the beginning of 2020, with the aim of relocating this activity from the fair, since the evolution of our wine event has been such that it was necessary to give it its own place in the calendar”, the President concludes.
