The D.O. Monterrei has just received Beth Willard, international expert in wines and representative of the Master of Wine Tim Atkin, who has approached the wine territory to discover the singularities of it, as well as the wine projects of twenty wineries registered.
All in order to prepare a detailed report with scores on Galician wines within the framework of special publications they issue on the various designations of origin; and will provide Monterrei’s producers with a key tool to boost their brands in international markets, increase their visibility and open up new markets.
During his visit to Monterrei he has discovered, first hand, the work done by the wineries Terras do Cigarrón, Gargalo, Pazo Blanco Núñez (Tapias Mariñán), Pazos del Rey, José Luis Mateo García (Quinta da Muradella), Manuel Vázquez Losada and Pazo das Tapias. In addition to visiting the vineyards and their facilities, he has known their winemaking operations, the projects they have under way and the people responsible for them.
In addition, a wine tunnel was built at the Consello Regulador headquarters, which allowed Beth Willard to taste the whites and reds of thirteen other wineries under the DO designation: Ladairo, Castro de Lobarzán, José Antonio Da Silva Pereira (Vinos Lara), Triay, Fragas do Lecer, Vía Arxéntea, Alba Al-Bar (Daniel Fernández), Pazo de Valdeconde, Tabú, Trasdovento, Quinta Soutullo, Manuel Regueiro García (Serra de Alén) and Alejandro Ramón Blanco Dijkhoff (Ramón Bigotes).
On this trip through Monterrei, Willard has tasted almost 90 wines (white, red, monovarietal or coupage), from different harvests, from 2008 to 2023, thus verifying the evolution of these over time.
