The Designation of Origin Monterrei has ended the harvest season 2023, achieving again a historic harvest, with 6,931,621 kilograms of grapes harvested.
Regarding the number of varieties harvested, 4,966,688.5 kilograms of white grapes have been collected, while red grapes have been 1,964,932.5 kilograms, that is, 72% of white varieties and the remaining 28% of the inks.
The harvest campaign began on August 27, with the winery Francisco Pérez Diéguez and ended on October 9, being the winery José Antonio Da Silva Pereira (Vinos Lara) the last to close the grape harvest period.
The harvest campaign 2023 has concluded with “excellent results at quantitative level, due to the increase in hectares in our territorial base”, highlights the president of the Regulatory Council, Jonatás Gago García, “and has reached an all-time high, surpassing by almost half a million kilograms the campaign 2022, so far the most successful”. He also wanted to highlight the “work of winemakers and winemakers, not only during the harvest campaign, but throughout the year”.
About the D.O Monterrei
Monterrei is one of the five Galician wine designations of origin. It covers the municipalities of Verín, Monterrei, Vilardevós, Riós, Oímbra and Castrelo do Val. It consists of 29 wineries. The vineyards of this D.O occupy a total of 720 hectares of territory in which 375 winegrowers work.
