The Designation of Origin Monterrei has ended the harvest year 2021, reaching again a historic harvest, with 6,231,057.5 kilograms of grapes harvested.
The 2021 harvest campaign has concluded with “excellent results at a quantitative level, due to the gradual increase that has been living our territorial base,” says the president of the Regulatory Council, Lara Da Silva, “as it has once again achieved a record high, surpassing by more than half a million kilograms the 2020 campaign, so far the most successful”.
With regard to the number of varieties harvested, 4,229,604.1 kilograms of white grapes have been collected, while that of red grapes has been 2,001,453.4 kilograms. The President also wanted to highlight that “we have found ourselves before an atypical harvest climatologically speaking, but in which winegrowers and winemakers have worked hard so that the fruit entered with an optimal state in the wineries, What we hope will translate into the quality of wines that continue to receive distinctions and, more importantly, consumer recognition”.
The harvest campaign began on September 6, with the winery Pazo das Tapias and ended on October 15, with the wineries Quinta do Buble and Trasdovento the last to close the grape harvest period.
