The Designation of Origin Monterrei has just started its cycle of promotional initiatives planned for this year 2021, making the first of them in the city of Madrid.
It was articulated in two shifts, in order to guarantee the hygienic-sanitary measures of the participants and comply with the regulation of capacity reduction. In each of these shifts there were 55 participants, who were able to know in situ the history and winemaking tradition of the area, soil and climate characteristics, grape varieties and wine typology, or the importance of cave wineries, among other issues.
Also, in this sensory journey they have been able to taste wines made by wineries of the Designation of Origin Monterrei. On this occasion, the wineries participating in this initiative were: Pazos del Rey, Ladairo, Gargalo, José Luis Gómez Ibáñez (Valderello), José Antonio Da Silva Pereira (Vinos Lara), Crego e Monaguillo, Terras do Cigarrón, Triay Adegas de Oímbra, Pazo Blanco Núñez (Tapias Mariñán), Fragas do Lecer, Manuel Guerra Justo (Vía Arxéntea), Pazo de Valdeconde, Tabú, Alba Al-Bar (Daniel Fernández), Fausto Rivero Pardo (Quinta Soutullo) and Trasdovento.
In this promotional action, held for the fourth consecutive year at the Casino of Madrid, have been present Gustavo García (sommelier of the restaurant Quique da Costa), Gregorio Ras (hotel owner in Barcelona, and gastronomic and wine consultant), José Luis Hernández (director of Pequeños D.O s and the National Contest of Small Wines D.O s), Maricarmen Martínez (sommelier of the Association of Sommeliers of Cadiz), Manuel Corralero (sommelier, advisor in wine shops and restaurants of Madrid and head of room of the Hotel Plaza de A Coruña), Manuel González (executive chef of the Palace of Negralejo and Posta Real) or María Isabel Mijares (oenologist, writer and disseminator of the world of wine; expert in Sensory Analysis; director and jury of numerous national and international competitions), among partners of the entity, sommeliers, representatives of the restaurant sector and media), between partners of the entity, sommeliers, representatives of the catering sector and specialized media.
“This initiative is the first of those planned for 2021, which will have continuity, if sanitary conditions allow, in other Galician cities and northern Spain, interspersed with initiatives that we will carry out in other countries in the rest of Europe”, stresses the president of the C.R.D.O. Monterrei, Lara Da Silva, “from the denomination we were very eager to be able to approach our prescribers again, as we have always done, bringing them our product first hand”.
